What to Wear for your couple Session, is simpler than you think!

Here’s a comprehensive guide to help you decide what to wear for your couple’s photoshoot. At the end of the day these are your photos, dress in clothes that showcase YOU. If that means all the colours of the rainbow, Country boots, casual t-shirts and jeans, then you do you. This guide is just to help you if you are stuck and have envisioned a certain look for your perfect photos together.

1. Coordinate your overall look

  • Complementary Colors: Choose colors that complement each other and I generally advise not to be too matchy-matchy. Think about shades that look good together, like navy and mustard, or soft pastels. But at the end of the day if you love the look of matching outfits, then go for it. It all comes down to your taste and how you have envisioned your photos to look.
  • Patterns and Solids: If one of you wears a pattern, the other might consider a solid color to balance the look.

2. Consider the Location

  • Urban Settings: For cityscapes, think chic and stylish. Outfits that reflect a trendy, modern vibe will look great against an urban backdrop.
  • Beach: Soft, flowing fabrics in natural colours work well – think baby blues, light greens, soft pinks, creams, whites, tan and browns.
  • Country: warmer sunset colours are what I recommend mostly, such as orange, olive greens, dark browns. Think of Autumn colours.

3. Dress for Comfort

  • Fit: Ensure your clothes fit well and are comfortable. Avoid anything too tight or too loose.
  • Mobility: You’ll likely be moving around, so wear something that allows you to sit, stand, and walk comfortably.

4. Add Personal Touches

  • Accessories: Simple accessories can add a touch of personality. Think hats, scarves, or a favorite piece of jewelry.
  • Props: Incorporating props that are meaningful to your relationship can add a unique touch to your photos.

5. Choose Timeless Pieces

  • Classic Styles: Opt for timeless styles over trendy pieces to ensure your photos remain classic and relevant.
  • Avoid Logos and Graphics: Keep your clothes free of logos and graphics to maintain a clean, timeless look.

6. Plan Ahead

  • Try On Outfits Together: Before the shoot, try on your outfits together to see how they look side by side.
  • Get a Second Opinion: Ask a friend or family member for their input on your outfit choices.

7. Hair and Makeup

  • Natural Look: Aim for a natural, polished look that enhances your features without overpowering them. Treat yourself to a professional makeup artist if you want to feel extra special and ask for a natural look. If you never wear makeup and it makes you feel weird than skip it!
  • Touch-Ups: Feel free to bring along a brusk and sme lip gloss for touch ups during our shoot. (You may kiss it off half way through the shoot!)

8. Footwear

  • Comfort is Key: Choose comfortable shoes, especially if you are heading out to a country location with long grass or walking through the city!
  • For Beach shoots (forget the shoes completely!)

Outfit Ideas

For Her:

  • Dress: A flowy dress in a solid color or a subtle pattern.
  • Jeans and Blouse: Pair fitted jeans with a pretty blouse and statement necklace.
  • Skirt and Sweater: A skirt with a cozy sweater can look chic and comfortable.
  • Jeans & Singlet: If you are hoping for a fun casual look.

For Him:

  • Button-Down Shirt and Chinos: A classic combination that works for most settings.
  • Sweater and Jeans: A fitted sweater over a collared shirt with jeans for a relaxed yet polished look.
  • T-shirt and comfortable shorts/pants for a casual style.
  • Suit: A tailored suit for a more formal, sophisticated look, perfect if in the City

Final Tips

  • Weather: Check the weather forecast and be prepared with layers if needed.
  • Confidence: Wear something that makes you feel confident and happy. Your comfort and confidence will shine through in your photos.
  • Communication: Communicate with your photographer about your outfit choices. They can offer valuable advice based on their experience.

By following these tips, you’ll be well-prepared to look your best and feel confident during your engagement photoshoot. Enjoy this special moment and the beautiful memories you’ll create!
