Yay….. you have booked Sheree McArthur as your Sunshine Coast Maternity Photographer! Congrats!!! Get ready for a fun, relaxing and soulful photoshoot celebrating this special time in your life! Now you have to decide what to wear!!! For a maternity photoshoot, comfort is key! Here are some simple tips on what to wear:
- Flowy Dresses: Flowy maxi dresses are a popular choice as they accentuate your baby bump beautifully. Choose dresses made from breathable fabrics like cotton or chiffon.
Solid Colors: Solid colors work best for maternity photos as they don’t distract from your bump. Neutrals like white, black, gray, or pastels are timeless options.
Crop & Skirt/Beach pants: It seems every clothing store these days have a range or crop tops and they are amazing to wear for a maternity shoot!! You can find beautiful ones that are off the shoulder and or have pretty ruffles and more. You may find one with sheer long sleeves too. Pair this with a flowy long skirt and you have a great combination for a gorgeous set. You may also like to keep it simple with bikinis covered with a lace kimono, flowy blouse or long sleeve Beach shirt. Linen sets are so in at the moment. What about wearing bikinis with cute linen shorts and matching linen top, with just the 1 or 2 buttons done up and your gorgeous bump showing.
Flower Head Pieces, hats and Maternity Dresses: If you have time to order there are some stunning Maternity dresses that have been made and are on offer to buy, You may want a florist to make a special head piece, r you may opt for a bohemian hat to really influence the style of your photos. I say go for it! During your pregnancy, you can feel very tired, but it is also a time in your life where you feel so special so treat yourself!
Form-Fitting Outfits: If you’re comfortable, you can opt for form-fitting outfits that showcase your bump. Bodycon dresses or fitted tops paired with stretchy pants or leggings can be flattering.
Layers: Adding layers like cardigans, shawls, or jackets can add dimension to your photoshoot and give you different looks without changing outfits.
Partner’s and/or olden children’s Attire: If your partner will be in the photoshoot, coordinate your outfits. Choose colors and styles that complement each other but avoid overly matching outfits. Remember, the most important thing is to wear what makes you feel comfortable and beautiful. These photos are about capturing this special moment in your life, so choose outfits that reflect your personal style and make you feel confident.

I adore documenting lifestyle newborn sessions because my clients can incorporate more of themselves into the session…that is what makes every session so unique. Your home décor, the colours and of course your style might play a part in what clothing you choose. The images I capture are to create natural and candid photos of you enjoying family time in your home space.
